I was fortunate enough to do hair and makeup for my friend Chris, who've I had the pleasure of knowing since fifth grade.
My amazing, kooky friend Chris and his beautiful bride, Ariel
I did hair and makeup for the bridal party at the amazing Culver Hotel. I could write an entire blog post on this place! Built in 1924, the hotel was residence to the likes of Greta Garbo and Clarke Gable. It also was a huge filming location! Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind were both filmed at the hotel. It's amazing history can be read here.
The couple were wed at The Smog Shoppe. Orignally a certified smog center, this location has been transformed into an ultra chic, "most sustainably designed urban spaces in the United States."
I knew this event would be an impromptu Pasadena High School Reunion. So, of course I had to make a dress especially for it!
I have one Hawaiian print top. After Viva, I fell in love with all the Shaheen's and Royal Hawiian outfits! Being on a budget, I simply cannot afford to buy vintage. So, in true TC fashion, I make my own! I used Simplicity pattern 2105. I've had this pattern for quite some time. I made a Christmas dress out of it, and really loved it. I figured it would be quite comfortable and cool in the hot August month.
Seamstress' Note: This pattern calls for upwards of 5 yards for the dress. Most of the yardage is in the skirt. I only did 2 of the 4 skirt panels. Without a petticoat, 2 panels would be fine. But, I did notice that my skirt hiked up when I sat down since I prefer a full petticoat under most of my dresses. Next time I think I'll do 3. I originally sewed 4 panels on my Christmas dress, which I thought was TOO much fabric to sew unto the bodice.
My new little walking buddy. It was great having her there so all my high school chums could meet her. However, I don't think I'll take her to another wedding until she's much older. The Fella and I spent most of our time walking around with her and wasn't able to socialize very much. She's such a smart, curious baby. Which is a blessing, but she is at the age where she refuses to be held and just wants to walk everywhere!
How I spent most of my time.
When Ariel and Chris met for the first time, he was dressed as a mime for a costume party. So, naturally a mime was the flower/ring boy!
The gorgeous bride!
LOVED the mint shoes!
Hugging my high school buddy, Cori - who served as the officiant.

Not much has changed!
I have two people in my life I've known since I was in elementary school. My across the street neighbor, Angelina (we've been friends since 2nd grade) and Chris. I feel so honored and lucky to have him!
Do you have any friends from elementary school that you still keep in touch with?
